Student of the Month Story (SoM)

Student of the Month Story
By Aussie Lura

Kasey is March 2019’s winner of Bowie High School’s Student of the Month award.

Kasey was emailed by the principal of Bowie HS being told she won Student of the Month. This honor is gifted to appreciate students who excel at their academics and extracurricular activities, and Kasey did just that.

Kasey got her email on March 1st telling her she won the award for the month.

“I emailed her telling her she won the award,” said the principal of Bowie High School, “I always email the students to make it feel more personal.”

Kasey was excited when she found out she won.

“I felt excited and happy to get such an honor,” she exclaimed.

She also feels she belongs amongst others who have won the award.

“I’ve worked as hard as they have,” she said on this topic.

Kasey is very involved in extracurriculars.

“Extracurriculars are just as important as academics because everything teaches something different,’” she shares.

Art is Kasey’s favorite class.

“My favorite class is art,” she stated, “because it’s not boring.”

We talked to Kasey’s art teacher and she said Kasey was a good student.

“Kasey? She’s an absolute joy to work with,” said Mrs. Nexer, “she learns well and she is very involved in class.”

Kasey says her friends are one of her favorite parts about school.

“My friends are one thing I love about school.”

We called in one of Kasey’s closest friends, Alissa, and got her opinion on Kasey winning the award.

“She deserves it,” Alissa explained, “She’s very friendly, and someone to turn to. She’s the one in the friend group that people turn to for advice, you know?”

Kasey also shared with us how she stays physically healthy.

“I eat well and play sports when I can,” she told us.

Kasey believes “never say I can’t” is a good moral to live by.

“Never say ‘I can’t’, I wish someone told me that,” Kasey told us.

Kasey also gives back to her community through volunteer work.

“I volunteer at an animal shelter,” she tells us, “on the weekends and over Summer.”

The principal explained to us how Student of the Month is picked for potential viewers wanting to win the award.

“We specifically look for students who portray leadership skills and are involved in their community.” he informed, “We reward well-rounded students, rather than focusing on purely academics.”

He also told us when the next award will be gifted.

"The next Student of the Month will be emailed on the first of next month." he said.

What ever is a nut graf? The nut graf (sometimes spelt nut graph) is the background information of your story. It is short for "nutshell paragraph" which explains it pretty well. The nut graf summarizes the story and gives vital information without going into details.
